The British Commission for Maritime History
The British Commission for Maritime History has one main aim and that is to promote the rigorous study of the maritime dimensions of history. As an island nation, Britain has a maritime history which touches many aspects of its past and the subject is a growing academic discipline, whether this is maritime archaeology, naval history or mercantile maritime history. The members of the Commission are drawn from many areas, from museums, universities and other maritime related organisations. They all share the same ambition to encourage quality research, whether from dedicated enthusiasts or academics. The BCMH achieves its aim through awarding prizes to undergraduates, through our lecture series which are open to the public, by running our annual New Researchers in Maritime History conference and other activities.![]() Swansea - location for our 2009 New Reseachers' Conference |
