Call for Papers - Women in the Maritime Business World

The British Commission for Maritime History (BCMH) welcomes contributions to this online conference which builds on the success of Lloyd's Register Foundation's project Re-writing Women into Maritime History.
While there were many historical restrictions on women working at sea, a growing body of research is demonstrating that the picture was different onshore.
We welcome contributions addressing, though not limited to, the following themes relating to the maritime industry in its widest sense: women as business leaders, women as financial players, women running ‘masculine’ businesses, communities of business women and evidence of matrilineality. Those who failed in their business endeavours are just as much of interest as those who succeeded. What were the male and societal reactions? Who were the mentors, supporters or detractors? What about women employing men?
Anyone interested in attending the conference without presenting a paper is also warmly invited to register an interest and further information will be sent to you in due course.
